Saam Alikhani, a 2010 Dana Hills High School graduate who served as the last student trustee on the Capistrano Unified School District board, announced today he is challenging incumbent Anna Bryson in the November 2 election.
He is the fourth candidate put forth by the Children First parents group.
His speech this morning at Dana Hills High - in front of students and other supporters - recognized some might question his age.
"I have served as the student trustee for the past year. I have sat on the dais and have closely observed inappropriate behaviors and poor decision making," Alikhani, 18, said.
He will attend UC Irvine.

As a 15 year CUSD parent, a homeowner, a taxpayer, and a CUSD teacher, I was very proud and honored to be present for Saam's announcement this morning. As he mentioned, he currently has more experience in school board operations than most first time trustees. I see Saam as an honorable young man who has the conviction and the ability to effectively serve our CUSD communities. I say again, "Saam's Our Man!"

I attended many board meetings last year. One notable difference between Saam and the others is that he listened to the speakers, pondered what they were sharing, and voted honorably rather than voting by party lines. He certainly has conviction. His vision is for the reparation of CUSD. I listened to his peers after Saam announced his candidacy, and I heard positive comments about his character and intelligence.
With each announcement of the candidates, I am more and more impressed by Children's First. The candidates thus far have quality of character and represent us. Thank you for giving us people we can believe in once more!

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!! SAAM FOR PRESIDENT!!! ANYONE THAT HAS BEEN TO ANY BOARD MEETING THIS LAST YEAR HAS TO BE AWARE THAT HE KNOWS MORE THAN THE EXISTING "UNTRUSTEES" AND PROBABLY MORE THAN THE "ULTIMATE BOARD MEMBER" TONY BEALL!
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE SAAM IN A SEAT ON THE DIAS.

Awesome!!! I attended several board meetings last year and one, in particular, stands out. The meeting in which the trustees voted to make permanent cuts (which was followed by the teachers' strike) was very boisterous and heated. Right before the vote, Sam spoke eloquently about some research he had conducted on his own, in which he found countless other districts in California who had made necessary, yet temporary cuts. He was calm, collected, and articulate, and seemed to command more respect than the trustees who surrounded him. I am very delighted by this choice of candidates. They are a good mix and represent refreshing change that this district so desperately needs!

I also attended a number of Board meetings this year, and was impressed by Saam. He is a person with tremendous integrity and poise, and he appears to have a very clear understanding of the changes we need to make in our district. The community really needs a voice on the Board who has knowledge and experience with the way our schools operate, and Saam is that person.

Wow! What great news! You didn't have to attend very many board meetings to realize that Saam is articulate and knowledgeable. Impressive, respectful, intelligent, and integrity are just a few of the adjectives that describe Saam. Thank you, Saam, for stepping forward - your candidacy speaks volumes!

For those who don't know, Dolphin of the Year is a big deal at Dana Hills. Saam was chosen out of his entire class by a panel of teachers and administrators as The Outstanding Senior. He is intelligent, reasonable, assertive and fair, and he conducts himself with decorum. His youthful perspective combined with his experience on the board last year will benefit the district. He deserves your vote.

Oh man. This is so good. You couldn't make this stuff up. Does anyone have the movie rights yet? Can you imagine what Anna Bryson must be thinking right now?
Hey OC Register. Can we get a quote from someone other than Beall for once? Sheesh. Does he work there or something?
