San Juan Capistrano’s famous for the return of the swallows, but at least one Councilman believes the town is going to the birds. Crows, specifically, and he doesn’t like it one bit.
During a discussion of the council’s priorities for the coming year, Councilmember Tom Hribar suggested trying to sterilize the crows flocking to the Capistrano Valley, he also jookingly offered that not enough people are hunting what he calls “rats with wings."Hribar has long complained about the crows, which he said have chased the swallows and songbirds away from the valley. Councilmember Laura Freese said she inquired with Orange County Vector Control, and was told there was nothing they could do about the crows.
Hribar said the birds are becoming more aggressive. Mayor Mark Nielsen agreed, saying he watched crows systematically ram into a glass door at a neighbor’s house, trying to break in.
It is, of course, illegal to fire a weapon within city limits.
This is what happens when you have more people in an area. You get more trash, more cockroaches, more traffic, more parking problems and more crows.
