SANTA ANA - A homeless man will be arraigned this afternoon for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl sleeping in her bedroom and a string of residential burglaries in Buena Park. Joel Solis Aguirre, 21, is charged with three felony counts of residential burglaries, one felony count each of assault with intent to commit a sexual offense during a residential burglary, lewd act upon a child under 14 years old, attempted kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, attempted kidnapping for child molesting and attempted residential burglary. Aguirre also faces sentencing allegations and enhancements for having a non-accomplice present during three residential burglaries and committing a lewd act during the commission of a burglary.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. The People will be requesting Aguirre be held on $1 million bail at the defendant's arraignment today, Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
On June 22, 2010, at about 2:00 a.m., Aguirre is accused of entering a locked and occupied home and stealing property from the downstairs living area. He is accused of going upstairs to find more property to steal and encountering 10-year-old Jane Doe. The defendant is accused of using a razor blade to cut her shorts in the crotch area and telling her to leave her bedroom with him four times, intending to sexually assault her. When Jane Doe started crying, Aguirre is accused of leaving her bedroom and exiting through the front door. He is accused of leaving his fingerprints in the house.
On June 25 and 26, 2010, during the early morning hours, Aguirre is accused of entering two locked and occupied homes and taking the victims' wallets, purses, cell phones, and other property. The defendant is accused of leaving his fingerprints at the homes.
On June 28, 2010, at about 2:00 a.m., Aguirre is accused of attempting to break into a home. The victim called 911. The defendant is accused of hiding in the bushes next to the same residence when the police responded. He is accused of leaving pry marks and his fingerprints at the crime scene.
