FALLBROOK, Calif.
— An extensive investigation by the U.S. Border Patrol resulted in the arrest of an illegal alien who is charged with assaulting two U.S. Border Patrol agents during a North County traffic stop last month.
On June 18, 2010, agents initially encountered the male suspect, a 29-year-old, Mexican national, as he drove a Dodge Dakota pickup truck in Valley Center, Calif. After agents stopped the vehicle on West Lilac Road and approached on foot, the driver sped away, dragging one agent a short distance and striking the other with the vehicle. The individual drove away before abandoning the pickup truck nearby to evade arrest. The two agents suffered injuries which were not life-threatening. As a result of the injuries to the agents, a federal warrant was issued for the arrest of the suspect.
Yesterday, the investigation led agents to a Fallbrook home where the suspect was believed to be residing. At about 6:40 a.m., agents spotted the subject as he left the residence with two other individuals in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
Agents followed the pickup truck a short distance to the drive-thru of a restaurant in Fallbrook and arrested the alleged assaulter without incident. The man is currently being held in federal custody and is facing charges for assaulting the federal agents.
